Hello Developers

It’s time to integrate an ultra fast cloud media processing service into your CMS, MAM or proprietary media workflow. Our API will give you access to over 25 professionally maintained encoding engines for all your media processing needs, from decoding, transcoding, audio processing, image processing, closed caption conversion, playout graphics and editing, adaptive bitrate packaging and digital right management.

1. Register

Access both the Encoding.com and Vid.ly APIs via our Developer account that includes API credentials, 1 GB of free encoding bandwidth per month and access to all of our powerful features. Usage rates apply to Vidly usage.

When ready to deploy your video application, simply login to the Encoding.com Client Interface and select one of the Monthly or Pre-Pay plans to meet your projected encoding volumes and SLA requirements. High-volume users should connect directly with us for custom plans. All of our plans are designed to scale with your usage.

2. Build & Post

Select target formats: Utilize one of our expert-designed web, mobile or set-top box Presets, or customize and save your own encoding profiles. Presets are a great way to begin.

Build your XML template: Copy the XML from our web interface or code from scratch using our complete API documentation.

Post and Go: Send your XML template to our API endpoint via an HTTP post. Or, use our browser-based XML submission tool to verify and test your XML without writing a single line of code.

3. Integrate

Accelerate your development: We have API wrappers for all popular languages: PHP, Zend, Ruby, Python, Java, ColdFusion, .NET, VBScript

Design your workflow: Chose from basic or advanced workflows using AddMedia or AddMediaBenchmark. Add a simple listener script to receive our notification posts informing you when jobs are complete.

Browser video upload system (UGV): Enable end users to upload videos directly to Encoding.com. Use our out-of-the-box PHP or .NET code that includes API integration, browser-based upload functions, a progress bar, notifications and cloud storage.

Encoding.com Client User Interface

Our UI allows you to quickly configure your encoding workflow. Ingest your files from any location and set your encoding parameters to your liking in just a few quick steps. The image below is what you see when you log into our UI. For more details about the Encoding.com UI, please see our knowledge base article.

Encoding.com Watch Folder
Automated Batch Video Encoding Without Programming

Encoding.com offers several seamless and efficient workflows to ingest and batch process your video assets. The simplest method is to use our watch folder. The watch folder enables you to load videos to be batch processed on demand, without writing code or using our API.

There are several great use cases for the Watch Folder. One use would be for large static libraries of content sitting in an online directory. All you have to do is point Encoding.com to your watch folder location, define your transcoding parameters, and let it rip. Within just a few minutes you’ll have the powerful Encoding.com platform chewing through your content. Another use case is for small teams with regular encoding needs. Set up the watch folder, give team members access to add assets, and, on a regular interval (once every 5 seconds to once every 24 hours), we will check the watch folder and automatically start encoding your assets.

If you are encoding large volumes of content on a very regular basis, we recommend automating your workflow through our API.

What is a Watch Folder?

A watch folder is an online directory that’s monitored by Encoding.com for new video assets. When new content is placed in the watch folder, Encoding.com will ingest the file and convert it to the specified format. Once the files in the watch folder are ingested and transcoded they are delivered to the destination of your choice.

Our popular watch folder is a great alternative to integrating with our XML API and requires nothing more than a SFTP/FTP/S3/Rackspace/Azure location to use. We also offer the option to specify the usage of local watch folders via our Desktop Application. Using the Watch Folder, you can be up and running encoding video files with Encoding.com in less than 5 minutes. Sit back, relax, and let Encoding.com do the work for you!

How to Begin Transcoding with our Watch Folder

Once you have logged into Encoding.com’s web interface, click on the ‘Watch Folder’ tab on the left side of the screen.

In the Folder URL field enter a valid FTP, S3 or Rackspace location folder in the dialogue box. Replace the contents there. They are for suggestion only! Learn how to use a Rackspace Cloud location as your watch folder.

Add an email address in the Notify URL field form “email@yourdomain.com." Alternatively you can enter a http URL of the script the result would be posted to.

Select a time frequency you would like our system to check your folder for new video files. If you have large files, set a higher poll time.

Enter one or more destination URLs in the format: http://myusername:password@myftpserver.com/video_out. FTP is also valid here, if you’re using that type of location.

Name your file/folder, select active or passive FTP, select your region and you are ready to go!

Our watch folder option offers a great way to process files and enable an efficient workflow. For more information and answers to frequently asked questions please visit our knowledge base. For requests for processing over 10,000 files at a time, feel free to contact our tech support team.
